Organizational Governance: Friend or Foe
Organizational Governance all too often is mandated by laws and regulations. In this respect, Governance can become a foe of the sustainable development leading to high compliance costs but more importantly instilling a culture of form over substance, where leadership is curtailed by bureaucracy and speed is lowered by fragmentation.
Always the challenge is to achieve the correct balance of control that allows teams to move forward quickly and effectively while keeping risks (down) to an acceptable level.
To achieve this, Governance, Risk, Compliance (GRC) consultants must always start with a shared understanding of the organization’s goals and values, in order to understand how processes contribute to them at the organizational level. They must know the capabilities of the technology and follow its trends. They must view themselves as members of the product delivery team.
